OC Music Festival ‘09
Eco Compliance
Mission Statement:
The OC Music Festival will be produced in an eco friendly manner, while simultaneously providing entertainment options and educational components that highlight examples of businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals that actively promote an ethic of eco-consciousness.
Eco Compliance Charter:
Our goal is to provide interesting examples of ways people can live, work, and play that embody an ethic of eco-consciousness. Our plan to accomplish this is two-fold; first, we will make ourselves an example by making every effort possible to embody an ethic of eco-consciousness into how we produce the OC Music Festival, and second, to provide educational opportunities to festival attendees that show how they can incorporate an ethic of eco consciousness into their own personal lives.
There are many steps we as consumers can take, some are easy and some are difficult, but the key is deciding which steps each of us as individuals can take - and then to take them. Before this can happen, however, we must educate ourselves about the options available to us, and what they mean. Our festival will help educate people about some of these options, while simultaneously incorporating them into our festival.
To accomplish this, we will establish a festival “EcoZone,” where we will provide an outlet for organizations to demonstrate how they promote an ethic of eco-consciousness. We will not incorporate “fringe” elements of environmental activism into our mission, nor will we promote the politicization of these issues. We want to show simple steps that make a big difference, and how these steps can be brought into our daily lives.
General Festival Guidelines for Eco Compliance:
- Waste management stations will be established in order to make recycling, composting, and waste disposal easier and more efficient
- Food service plates, cups, and plastic wear will be uniform in order to more easily accommodate recycling and/or composting
- Food waste will be composted (possibly donating unused food to a local food bank)
- Paper (or cloth) bags instead of plastic - especially if product/tote bags are to be used
- Use local products and services whenever possible
